It is a matter of convention.
He added: “If you know the right people here, a Ph.D from India will work.
The last words of the Professor struck into his head: “Don’t lose your timber with Americans because you don’t know when you will need them again. The individuals might change but the system doesn’t forget. When the employee will touch the keyboard every thing will spring out.
All of this discussion and more were in preparation for the Great Embassy visit.
Saber held the appointment paper under his arm and waited in the street for the Service to come
This step was the rate determining step.
That means it was the slowest step.
After half an hour standing in the street, a car came. It was empty. He was forced to pay for the full passenger load to make it move,
When he reached the bus terminal, he found a coaster bus about to be full
He rode it and was directed to the capital city where the Embassy was.
A lot of passengers were smoking, so he smoked too.
He enjoyed smoking too much It was a challenge between him and clean breath
Life is like that challenge, but we don’t stand for it
He reached the capital.
“How you will afford your study expenses.,“ the Embassy employee asked.
“My mother will sell her gold to withstand that,“ he replied.
“You didn’t bring a bank statement with the required amount of money.
“But… He couldn’t complete the words when the stamp on the passport declared, (Rejected).
Saber couldn’t say anything, but the worst he knew hurt the Americans.
Inside the USA embassy with the loudest voice he said:
“FREE PALESTINE! DOWN AMERICANS! He forgot the magical advice he had received from the Professor about timber.
He was in something and he ended in something else
In the middle of that trouble he unintentionally cursed the king when he saw the police and the gendarme dragging him out. Immediately they put him in a police bus to be sent to the general attorney to judge him. If the judge was to be merciful with him and not to end his respect, he will not consider it a crime and will judge with civil rights.
Saber’s problem at that moment was that his family didn’t knew where he was. When he was too late to return they would go the police guarding the Embassy and ask them about Saber. They would just be sent him to the prison and be told the story. One of the family told a police officer that Saber once suffered a mental illness and it was most probable that he had an illness episode, but the psychiatrist told them if to have another episode the illness will be chronic and will need medical treatment for the rest of his life.
One of the police officers tried to give them advice:
“Don’t tell the general attorney that because it will ruin his future.
He added:
“Get a good lawyer. He will give him three months. You can replace it with money and get him out of prison.
“I can’t get him out of prison until the judge issues his statement, or you pay the bill which is five thousand Jordan Dinars.
“We will pay anything for him and get him out of prison. We will put him in a normal hospital, not a mental health hospital,” his mother said firmly.
While he was in prison, he couldn’t escape sexual harassment. More than four times he was about to be raped but his ass was too dirty for that.
His crime was political, but inside prison they put him with criminals, not politicians.
“I will free him from the governor’s office,” the lawyer said and affirmed: “He will not repeat it again.
Without planning, he was put on the blacklist for ever.
He couldn’t tell anybody what happened to him.
He kept sending the Embassy threatening messages, from a fool to a system which would never forget.
He worked as a teacher. The police officer’s advice was in its place, and Saber during this short period in prison forgot everything about Hilbert space. Even if someone just mentioned it in front of him, he would not remember.
And a time came when his daughter was accepted with a scholarship in one of the best United States universitie.s
“I want to cry.
"Minutes separate me from my daughter. I want to step in front of that window and get an organ card. Oh, no my god, the person reads from a screen. It is generosity from them to let me enter the Embassy.”
"I have a broken heart. Oh, no my God it is all the way my mistake. What a fool I am “
"The Embassy refused to give me the required Visa to see her, what to do, I don’t know “
Between these lines holds a whole sad story.
“Give me paper, only when I ask. “The Embassy employee said from the back of the window,
“Oh, my God, how much sad I am, he didn’t give us ,even, the opportunity to show him my paper. Oh, my God how much sad I am. I want to cry, but not in front of him. Because he has no feelings - otherwise he would give me the required permission to see my daughter.”
“How much the procedures are tough and inhuman, I can’t see my daughter because of it.
All this conversation happened between unknowns in one of the Arabian countries in the middle eas.t
Someone comes by and said:
“I can help? “
“Help with what? “
“Visa to USA. I know people in the Embassy. I heard you talking.”
“But did you see the circumstances, my history with the,,,
“Yes, yes don’t worry about that I know exactly the right people.
“But those are Americans.
“Yes, yes”
“Are you married?”
“Of course.”
“Then it’s easy. You found your wife with a man.
“What is your plot?
“You want to divorce your wife because you found her with another man.
“How to convince them with this story.
And added:
“And what in return? “
“Five thousand dollars.
“What you see?”
“First give us a proof.
“Proof of what? “
“You know someone in the Embassy.
“I know the Ambassador himself.
“Prove.
“I will give you a clue.
“What? “
“A photo with the Ambassador.
“But who can tell, who is the Ambassador of the United States of America, you mini act of Jordan? “
“Go from here or we will kill you right now.
The person dragged his feet away, without looking back.
Our friend went in a deep sad cry trying to remember how once he tried to send a threatening message via e-mail to the Embassy of the United States of America before many, many years ago, and his daughter and him is paying the price now.
He looked back, the man still there:
“What you promise me?
“Green card then a passport. But everything should be real, even if the Embassy workers can accept to be fooled everything should be real.
“What you mean?”
“The police reports should be real. There should be a public story.
“How dare you ask me for this.
“This is the reunion of your family, the Americans will forget whatever you have done because of your wife not for you.
He finished: “Accepted or Rejected.
“Accepted.
When he told his wife the whole story, she immediately asked for divorce.
“As I know now, what is the reason for the visa rejection, I will go to America alone and leave you humiliated worse than a dog here.
She added: “I will tell everybody about your plans and I will leave you strayed in the streets here.
After only one week of this incident his mother died of grief. She was the only one who was able to know how to help him. After her death he couldn’t afford his expensive medicine, and really the streets waited him, his sisters and brothers were married and had children, no one of them could have him enter into their houses.
Most of the time he was unconscious, talking unconsciously, any person seeing him would tell that.
Tears in eyes of his friends and family, once there was a person saw him astray and his daughter was two continents away.
Oh, system, the new God, why you couldn’t forgive him

She added:
“Don’t show the employees of the Embassy that the visa is guaranteed, don’t smile, that will give the impression that their work is not important.
“Oh, sister it was a horrific nightmare
I promise that I will keep your faith in me.

“Yes mom.
“This is a quick breakfast.My boy don’t disappoint us, me and your sisters are awaiting the good news. Show Americans Hilbert space.
“
“I remember most of what you say. And don’t forget I had a diploma.
She affirmed:
“Remember, no green card no passport, you will return and work here…
“You will come back in summer to marry and take your bride with you.
Her tears were shedding down. Oh, my boy we all love you, you will never find someone like you as we are.
“Put the bank statement on top of your paper, it is the most important, without it there is nothing.
“Don’t think of any thing, clear your mind in front of the Embassies’ window and remember the embassies’ employee is not your friend.
