Chapter breaks have an important role in novels. Ideally, they are “steps” to help readers recognize disruptions in action, place, or time.
Think of it this way. After the first chapter, there is a need to disrupt the flow when things change.
Each next paragraph can announce a new place, time, character, emotion or event, etc.
As the story proceeds, each chapter may resolve an action, summarize, or prepare for a new direction in the story.
If the next chapter jumps to another major location or point in time, it's important to let readers know. (Remember - audiobook listeners typically are giving less than full attention to content. Thus, there is a need to clearly label each change.)
At the same time, the narrative always proceeds with a strong sequence providing unity in the work.
Think "bite sized." When you delight in a meal or public event, you prefer to access the content one bit at a time. At the same time, we depend on presentation of content in pieces.
Use your chapters carefully, for they help readers appreciate your meaning.
