A Hidden Character for your Novel
In writing a novel, an interesting tool is the “Hidden character.”
A “hidden character” is someone you introduce early in the story. A startling and unforgettable character is best. What’s different is that this character falls out of sight early in the story, despite the protagonist’s fervent but ineffectual desire to find them.
Later, as the story progresses, new characters and conflicts need to develop, but the hidden soul unexpectedly returns in the midst of an impossible climax. Here, when the protagonist is doomed to lifetime failure and devastation, the hidden character emerges. Perhaps smug, perhaps bombastic, this welcome soul slips into the story and saves the day!
Have some fun with your writing. Try the “hidden character” to bring relief to readers who tremble on the edge of their seats.
