Educated at University of Nairobi and Freie Universtat, Berlin, Muli
wa Kyendo has published two well-read novels, Whispers and The Surface
Beneath and numerous short stories and several plays.

Mr. Muli started his writing career as a News Editor (radio and TV)
with the Voice of Kenya (now Kenya Broadcasting Corporation). He left to
join a political and business analysis magazine, the Weekly Review
before joining Nation Newspapers where he wrote and edited news and
features. He was also the paper's columnist, film and book reviewer.

He started his own publishing business with two titles, Woman's Mirror
and Investment News. The success of the business became a great
inspiration to many young Kenyan journalists before it ran into
political trouble.

Currently he runs a writing and publishing consultancy business,
Nairobi Editing and Publishing Services, which also publishes
Investment News magazine. He is the founder and Executive Director of
the Syokimau Cultural Centre, a non-profit organization that
encourages the establishment of community cultural centers and
promotes modernization and use of traditional culture through creative
