Esther

 

 After the pledges and prayer were finished, Robert welcomed the members and visitors to their Bible Club meeting.  He called on Tori to introduce her Bible character.

            Tori smiled at the little troop as she pointed to her nametag and said, “Tonight, I’m Esther.  Of course, my name wasn’t always Esther.  My Hebrew name was Hadassah.  After I married King Ahasuerus, my name then became Esther.

            “My father’s name was Abihail.  My parents died when I was young and my cousin Mordecai raised me.  When King Ahazuerus became angry with his wife Vashti and dethroned her, he appointed officers in all the provinces of his kingdom to bring together all the fair young virgins to the palace.  The young women would prepare themselves for 12 months and go before the king to see which one would be his new wife.  He loved me above all the women that went before him.  He put the royal crown on my head, and I became queen. 

            “The king didn’t know that my cousin Mordecai had raised me. I had never told him my family history.  One day Mordecai was sitting at the gate, and he overheard two guys planning to harm the king.  He got the word to me.  I let the king know what was going on and the two guys were hung on a tree.

            “After this, the king promoted Haman above all the princes.  All the people bowed to Haman, but Mordecai didn’t.  This made Haman angry.  He plotted to have all the Jews killed, just to get rid of Mordecai.  My maids and chamberlains told me what was going on.  I sent Mordecai a message.  I told him to gather all the Jews in Shushan, and fast for me for three days and nights.  I told him that my maidens and I would do the same.  After three days I would go before the king concerning this matter.

            “I went before the king and invited him and Haman to a banquet that I would prepare.  In the meantime, Haman had gallows prepared to hang Mordecai on. 

            “At the banquet, the king asked what I desired of him.  He said he would grant my request up to half of the kingdom.  When I told him there was a plot to kill my people, he asked who was behind it.  I told him Haman was.  He had Haman hung on the same gallows that had been prepared for Mordecai.  The king gave Mordecai the ring that he had given to Haman, and sat Mordecai over the house of Haman.  He also reversed the orders that Haman had sent out to destroy the Jews.

            “I think God had a plan for my life.  Had Mordecai not raised me, I probably would have never gone before the king in the first place.  I believe God worked it out for me to be there to rescue my people.”

            She smiled as she said, “Well, that’s all I know to tell you about me.”

            As she went to her seat, Grandma asked, “Tori, can you tell us where you found your scripture to back up your introduction of Esther?”

            Tori answered, “Yes, ma’am.  I found it in the book of Esther which is between the book of Nehemiah and Job.”

            “You did a great job, Tori,” Grandma commented.  “I think we have two more characters to cover.” 

            “Grandma, this has been fun.  We’ve learned a lot about the people in the Bible,” said Shani.

            “Yeah,” said Phillip.  “We’re getting a lot of experience in looking up scripture.  It’s helping me learn how to comprehend what I’m reading.”

            “Grandma, will you give us a test after we finish our characters to see how much we’ve learned?” asked Miranda.

            “I’ve been thinking about that,” replied Grandma.

            “Hey, Grandma.  You could have another one of your bags of goodies!” squealed Miranda.

            Grandma chuckled as she listened to the children talk while they ate their refreshments.  They pretended to be the characters they had portrayed.  She thought to herself.  “At least, they will keep the things they have learned fresh in their minds.  Maybe a test would be a good idea.”

            Again as the children left to go home, Grandma prayed and thanked God for children that are so willing to learn about God and His Word.

why didn't you just copy the story from the bible onto the website? how is this creative writing? what you may consider doing in revision is rewriting the same story but with miranda and her brother acting in the way of the bible story. in other words what was significant about this story that made you write about it, right now it could have been any story out of any religious book.

I don't know what age group you are trying to reach so it makes it really hard to rate. I think the story is ok for little children. To appeal to older children or young adults it needs more detail, more about the feelings of how it felt to wear the colored clothing and how they think Joseph must have felt. How that Joseph in his time was probably proud of his coat. How things were different then and how time changes things, but God never changes and still works through people.
