Grandma's Angels

 

 “Yesterday, we started on a spiritual journey, using our Bible for a road map.  Sooner or later, we will reach our destination.  Who wants to tell us where our final destination is going to be?” asked Grandma.

            Ricky and Miranda both yelled out, “Heaven!”

            “What will Heaven look like?” Grandma asked.  She nodded for Phillip to go ahead since his hand went up first.

            Phillip turned in his Bible to Revelation 21:16 and read, “And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth:  and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs.  The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal,” he read.  “I asked Daddy how big is twelve thousand furlongs.  He showed me right here in my reference column.  It says 1,377 miles,” he explained as he showed Grandma.

            Tori spoke up.  “The walls are jasper, Grandma!  I looked up jasper in my dictionary.  The jasper stone is of brilliant and transparent light.  The walls will be bright and glittery!”  she exclaimed.

            “There are twelve gates,” interrupted Robert.   “Each one is of one pearl.”

            “Yeah!” said Miranda, excitedly.  “The street is pure gold.  It looks like clear glass.  I’ll bet that’s a lot shinier than Mama’s floor!”

            “There won’t be a sun,” Robert pointed out, “because Jesus is the light.”

            “There won’t be a moon, either,” added Taylor, “because it will never be night there.”

            Ricky said with a look of amazement, “The gates won’t ever have to be locked because no mean person can come in, and angels guard the gates.”

            Taylor asked, “Grandma, do you think it’s the same angels that protect us?”

            Before Grandma could speak, Miranda queried, “Grandma, won’t the tree of life be in Heaven?”

            “Yes, dear, it will.  We just have to read a little farther.  It’s in chapter 22.”

            “Grandma, may I tell about it?” asked Phillip.  “You know how I love to read,” said Phillip.  “I read both chapters last night.  First, let me tell about the river.  It’s coming out of the throne of God.  It’s the water of life, and it’s pure and clear as crystal,” he added.

            “The tree of life has twelve kinds of fruit.  It yields every month,” added Robert.

            “Mentioning fruit, I’m hungry, Grandma,” teased Ricky.

            As they enjoyed their lunch, Grandma promised to be thinking of more Bible games they could play during their first school break.

            As the children left, Grandma prayed that God would protect them as they went back to school.

            She would miss them, but she knew she would keep them every school holiday.

            Plus, she had a beautiful charm bracelet with six beautiful angels on it.

            “We bought this for you with our allowances, Grandma.  When you wear it, remember how much fun we had this summer,” the children told her.

why didn't you just copy the story from the bible onto the website? how is this creative writing? what you may consider doing in revision is rewriting the same story but with miranda and her brother acting in the way of the bible story. in other words what was significant about this story that made you write about it, right now it could have been any story out of any religious book.

I don't know what age group you are trying to reach so it makes it really hard to rate. I think the story is ok for little children. To appeal to older children or young adults it needs more detail, more about the feelings of how it felt to wear the colored clothing and how they think Joseph must have felt. How that Joseph in his time was probably proud of his coat. How things were different then and how time changes things, but God never changes and still works through people.
